Gathered in the Upper Room, the excitement of seeing the risen Lord continued to drip as fragrant oil over the disciples. Waiting in their thoughts, anticipation, and fear, as the City of Jerusalem struggled to return to normal after Passover and the crucifixion.
Hushed voices, speaking wonder from their hearts, recalling what the angel had told Mary of Magdalene while visiting the empty tomb. Mary’s own mind, re-tracing her steps, and the words of the angel,
“…go quickly and tell His disciples…He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him.” Matthew 28:7
Mary’s heart raced remembering her encounter with Jesus. The tenderness of His greeting “Peace-Shalom” flooded her spirit with comfort and joy. His words “…there they will see Me” sound so familiar to her ears. Were these the same words, as a child she strained to hear from a distance, as the village Rabbi taught the local children?
“… at the entrance of the tent…I will meet with you, to speak to you… And they shall know that I AM the LORD their God… Exodus 29:42-46 (ESV)
Running these Words, and Jesus’ Words over and over in her mind…
“…I will meet with you, to speak to you…” Exodus 29:42
“…go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.” Matthew 28:10
“Galilee,” the very sound of the word, transported Mary’s emotions to the peace of the water’s edge. Collecting the tiny shells; listening to the water lapped softly on the shore; and tucking bits of treasures into the folds of her garment. Peace-Shalom. Lost in thought, the voices and calls of traveling pilgrims, jars Mary’s thoughts back to the Upper Room. Sitting, here in Jerusalem, the very pinnacle of David’s “entrance of the tent,” the memories of home, and Jesus’ Words encourage Mary’s weary soul.
“…I will meet with you, to speak to you…”
“… and there they will see Me.”
Not bound by time, traditions or geographic location, in the midst of the noise and travels of the day, like Mary, I too am returning to the promises found in His Word. Listening to the tenderness of His voice speaking, “Peace-Shalom.” Jesus the same “yesterday, today and forevermore” meeting with me, at the entrance the tent, my heart, speaking…
“…to you…I AM,
Immanuel, God with you,
Prince of Peace,
I AM – Yeshua – Jesus!
…and (you) shall know that…I AM the LORD (your) God. ”Exodus 29:42
