Are You Prepared to Cry?

“To see injustice

Where I walked on by.

To feel Compassion,

Where I closed my eyes.

To hear the children,

Where I once was deaf.

To weep the tears,

Where I once just left.

To feel the piercing

Of the heart,

Where I once was bitter

From the start.

To intercede,

Where I never would.

To extend the hand,

Where it can do good.

To hear Your voice

Over the din.

To be brand new

Where I once was sin.

To drink the cup,

Where I passed it by.

To have the mind of Christ

Is to prepare to cry.”

“Jesus wept.”

John 11:35 (ESV)

Poem by denisebalog

“The unspiritual self,

just as it is by nature,

Can’t receive the gift

of God’s Spirit.

There’s no capacity for them.

They seem like so much silliness.

Spirit can be known only by spirit –

God’s Spirit and our spirits in

Open communion.

Spiritually alive, we have access

To everything God’s Spirit

Is doing, and can’t be judged by

Unspiritual critics.

Isaiah’s question,

“Is there anyone

‘For who has known the

Mind of the Lord

That he may instruct Him?’

But we have the mind of Christ.”

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 (The Message)

    1. Yes, I was drawn to ask to see His heart and through His eyes. Once drawn, my pencil and heart couldn’t stop the flow. Thank you for your thoughts and comment:) d

  1. Oh, my, Denise, I think the Spirit had you write this JUST FOR ME! This year, I have been wrangling with my old self and its limited, selfish loving — I want so much to love like Jesus loves. So this is a wonderful prayer for me to use as I seek to let the Spirit teach me how to love.

  2. On the road to Emmaus, the two disciples did not recognize Jesus at first, sometimes we do not see Jesus in the suffering around us and fail to feel compassion because we are caught up in our own fears, doubts and problems but when we ask Him to stay with us, then our hearts will burn and we recognize Him in all these events despite our own weakness. We need the presence of the Holy Spirit to give us this grace because on our goodwill alone we cannot weep for our brothers as Jesus did.

    1. Sorry Alice, I didn’t realize missed hitting “approve”. Yes, on our own, we are kept so busy thinking about ourselves! I like a teaching from Joyce Meyers where our flesh can ask all day, ” What about me, what about me!” She is so right! Oh to see as Jesus sees:) blessings, denise

We need the presence of the Holy Spirit to give us compassion like that of Jesus for our goodwill alone cannot help us to recognize Jesus in our brothers.

  4. Dear Denise,
I can only say a-men to both of your poems. Be prepared also to let God take you to where others are grieving so your hands, heart and life in the midst of pain are His Hands and Heart.
It took a tragic flood to truly ‘get me out of the boat’ and like Peter have to totally trust God so I grieved with the broken while sharing comfort and love. Bless you!
