Beneath Your Restful Shade

“The Lord is your shade at your right hand…The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.” Psalm 121:5 (NJKV)

One of the things I love about the Hebrew letters are their visual beauty to illuminate Jesus!

The Hebrew word for shade is tsel (tsale) #6738 in the Strong’s Concordance.

Tsel is a masculine noun meaning a shade, a shadow, under the protection or refuge of the LORD. When I see these letters in the context of the Scripture, in my mind’s eye I see…

צ  = tsadik = fishhook = to catch, desire, to grasp, to praise

ל = lamed = staff/rod = Shepherd, to accompany

Praising Jesus for He is my Shepherd Who accompanies me through the darkest valley!

When the atmosphere of your world begins to heat up.  Struggle finds you in the midst of the day. Return to the visual of Tsel, צל and rest beneath His loving shade! Praise Jesus, your Shepherd knows you’re going out and coming in from this time forth and even forevermore!

Decision, Decisions

Lord, “we know not what to do!”

First mentioned of “decision” in Scripture

“…the Lord is near in the valley of decision.” Joel 3:14 The Hebrew Strong’s word number 2742, points to the Strong’s root word number 2782.

Decision #2782 – charats (khaw-rats’) definition

  • To point sharply.
  • Figurative to be alert.
  • To decide, determine and move.

The word picture illustrates – Decision #2782 charats (khaw-rats’)

Chet – ח Fence – Inner-room, private, protection

Reysh –ר  Head (of a man) – a person, the first.

Tsadik – צ Hook – to catch, desire, to grasp, to praise.

So what does this all have to do with making a Decision? In Joel 3:12 the place of “decision” is mentioned as “the Valley of Jehoshaphat.” What happened in the “Valley of Jehoshaphat?” The story is found in 2 Chronicles chapter 20. “Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the LORD.” Verse 3 visually retelling the story how “A great multitude” was coming against Jehoshaphat. In this valley of fear and despair, one of the most memorable lines in the Old Testament was spoken for our encouragement. “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” Verse 12

In our daily lives, many decisions are required. Frankly, I too, do not know what to do!  The Hebrew word charats for “decision” visually reminds me.

The protection for my head, the first place I need to look, is to grasp the power of the One Who loves me and praise Him in my valley of decisions. There, I too can be as Jehoshaphat and hear the word of the Lord from our Prince of Peace, “Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God’s…You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf.” Verses 15 and 17

Thank You LORD, for You are “near in the valley of decision” comforting, strengthening and fighting our daily life battles. When “great multitudes” come against us, in our weakness, we look to You and stand firm in Your Word, position and saving power. In Your Mighty Name Jesus! Amen!
