Daniel – The Right Hand of Favor – Yood

“And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.” Daniel 10: Verse 10

This was the verse that opened my eyes to see the Hebrew letters.

“a hand touched me…”

Yood - 10th letter Word Picture: Closed (right) hand Meaning: Work, a deed, to make, effort
Yood – 10th letter

Meaning: Work, a deed, to make, effort

Yood – Is the smallest of the Hebrew letters but very significant.

It can represent:

“the hand of God”

“the work of God”

“the favor of God by His hand”

Jesus spoke,

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.” Matthew Chapter 10:29

Matthew Chapter 10 – Ten

Nothing is insignificant to the Father. So much so, Jesus also said,

“For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18

He was speaking about the letter Yood.

It’s numerical value is 10. The number 10 represents order:

The Ten Commandments

The 10 generations of Adam to Noah.

God delivered Israel by the 10 plagues.

A minyan (a group of 10 men) is required for prayer in the synagogue.

“And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees.”

Daniel had the “hand of God” lift him up.

God gave Daniel favor – Daniel 1:9

Yood is the right hand – or the hand of favor, by lifting Daniel up.

God was “working” on Daniel’s behalf.

“Strength and comfort commonly come by degrees to those that have been long cast down and disquieted; they are first helped up a little, and then more. After two days he will review us, and then the third day he will raise us up. And we must not despise the day of small things, but be thankful for the beginning of mercy.” quote by Matthew Henry

God does not,

despise our small frames,

or trembling knees.

He extends His hand of

love and favor.

Picking us up from despair;

depression;

sickness;

loneliness;

and with His mighty

right hand works on our behalf!

And like the “Feature photo” of a tambourine depicting Miriam, the sister of Aaron, who took a tambourine in her hand, went out (with all the women) singing and dancing after the LORD, Who (with a Mighty hand) brought back the waters of the Sea.

Delivering the people from the ten plagues and bondage. Exodus 15:19

“On the days when I feel small,

Fighting the battle on my own.

I remember,

You are my Deliverer;

With Mighty Closed Hand of

Yood!”

The Ninth letter “Tet” has a meaning of “surround”.

IMG_20160331_185837826_HDR

as in the “twisting” of a vine growing up towards the light.

IMG_20160331_190127234

Or the “encircling” to keep something together, and loose ends from falling apart.

IMG_20150404_170307841

I especially like this example – the “twisting” of braided Easter bread with icing on top! Sweet!

The Ninth letter of the Hebrew Alphabet is the word picture of a “snake”.

Word picture: Snake Meaning: Surrounding, Encircling, Twisting, Coiling
Word picture: Snake
Meaning: Surrounding, Encircling, Twisting, Coiling

Definitely NOT my favorite word picture.

But, as much as I do not like the picture or the idea of a “snake”, there is still no denying the existence of evil.

Hence, even in the letters, “Tet” can be used to help give understanding and wisdom in the “spiritual” and “natural” realm.

What of Daniel in verse 9 of Chapter 10?

“Then I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep with my face to the ground.

Daniel was “encircled, surrounded” in a deep sweet sleep!

For Daniel, in the context of the retelling of his story, he has just seen the full face of Jesus in verse eight – Chet.

Chet - 8th Hebrew letter. Word Picture - Fence Meaning: - inner-room, protection, private, to separate, full-face

He didn’t fall into the “encircling” or “twisted” fear of the “snake”;

But into the sweet sleep of the beloved as one who has seen

And felt the surrounding peace of the beauty of Christ.

If you are tossing, “twisting”, and

feel as if your loose ends are coming apart;

May you as one who hears,

“the sound of His words…”

“I have come that (you) may have life, and that (you) may have it abundantly.” John 10:10

Returning to Daniel to Remember – Zayin

A study illuminating Jesus in Daniel, Chapter 10.

“And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves.” Daniel 10:7

Daniel was alone – “cut off” by himself.

Zayin - Seventh Hebrew letter. Word Picture: Weapon - Sword Meaning: To end, bring to completion, to cut, to cut off. Can you visualize holding it in your hand as a weapon?
Zayin – Seventh Hebrew letter.
Word Picture: Weapon – Sword
Meaning: To end, bring to completion, to cut, to cut off.
Can you visualize holding it in your hand as a weapon?

Daniel heard the sound of Jesus’ voice which is also found in Revelation 19:15 – “mouth like a sword” – Jesus is coming to “bring completion”.

Weapon used by the Romans.
Weapon used by the Romans.

Of Daniel – “His attendants saw not the vision; …There is a divine revelation vouchsafed to all, from converse with which none are excluded who do not excluded themselves.” – quote by Matthew Henry

Man cuts himself off from Christ and His revelations.

A revelation found in the Hebrew word “remember”.

“The Hebrew word for remember is zakar. The Hebrew letters (Zayin, Kaf, Reysh for remember) can visually illustrate, to remember is the weapon in the palm of the hand of the person. Our highest weapon in spiritual warfare is to remember.

The next time the evil one shows you lack, remember the Lord is your Shepherd, and you “shall not want”; when sickness plagues the day, remember, “with His stripes we are healed” and when the world asks, “Where is your God?” remember Jesus and His “steadfast love.”

The first time Jesus used the word remember in the New Testament, He said, “Remember the five loaves of bread…” there is the number five again; Grace! Let us enjoy this Travel Truth spending the day remembering, “Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ!” John 1:16”

Scriptures: Psalm 23:1; Isaiah 53:5; Psalm 42:3; Matthew 16:9

Whom is This? – Daniel “AND” the 6th letter Vav

Continuing with Daniel…

Daniel begins to describe Jesusjoining or securing the pieces together of what he saw.

“His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.” Daniel 10: Verse 6.

Vav - 6th Hebrew letter Word picture - nail, peg, or spike Meaning: joined, to secure, safety, to add, protection. Can you see the "nail" or "spike"?

Can you see the “nail” or “spike”?

Six (6) is commonly denoted for the number of man.

On the sixth day man was created.

Man has six (6) motions: forward, backward, left, right, up, and down.

Daniel was seeing Jesus in His “man” identity.

Daniel description of Jesus is also seen in Revelations 1:12-15.

“his body like the beryl, a precious stone of a sky-colour…His voice was loud and strong – the voice of God can over power the voice of people.” Quote by Matthew Henry

Isaiah speaking of Jesus:

“And I will fasten Him like a peg in a secure place, and He will become a throne of honor to His Father’s house.” Isaiah 22:23

Jesus hands and feet were pierced with “nails” thereby securing for us a place in His Father’s house. Amen!

“Then Jesus said… “Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand, and place in My side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” John 20:27

May the voice you hear be as fresh rushing springs, bringing Life to all you do and say!

“I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. Daniel Chapter 10: 5.

Daniel was “looking” and had been praying for an answer.

Daniel’s eyes saw Jesus  – “behold”.

Daniel beheld a “mystery”.

“There he (Daniel) looked up, and saw one man Christ Jesus…for he appears in the same resemblance wherein he appeared to St. John in the isle of Patmos, Rev. 1:13-15…” quote from Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible

The sages or teachers teach:

“The Letter “Hei” (or Hey) is found twice in the sacred name of God known as the Tetragrammaton – Yud-Hei-Vov-Hei- and connotes divine revelation.” Quote from “The Hebrew Alphabet” by Edward Hoffman

May you be blessed beholding Jesus in the window of “Hey” today!

Daniel in the window of Grace – Day Five – Part I

“Hey” is the letter that drew me in to behold the beauty Grace in the Hebrew letters. When the “hey” is added to a word, miracles begin to open up.

In Genesis 17, God added the “hey to Abram’s name, changing it to Abraham, and the “hey” to Sarai, changing her name to Sarah. In Chapter 18, Abraham is speaking with God as a friend, and promises Sarah a son the following year. They found favor or “Hey” in the eyes of God.

The fifth time (the number for “Hey”) Noah’s name is mentioned, it say’s “Noah found favor (or grace in Hebrew) in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6:8

“(Daniel) probably walking there, not for diversion, but devotion and contemplation, as Isaac walked the field…” quote by Matthew Henry

The past three days I have prepared the posts the night before. Last night, after a long day, I choose to sit quietly before going to bed. Rising early, for the best part of my day, time spent in the Word.  Pondering whether to take to prepare the post of Dalet, I want to be sure I am right on His path and not mine.

Coffee poured, picking up the little devotional book I read daily,

2015-05-16 Morning Grace

noted in my handwriting was Exodus 21:6. Turning to the Scripture, my heart was quicken with a sweet “Word” to open the door for this post today.

“He shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.” Exodus 21:6

The verse is speaking about one who “chooses” to stay by his master’s side and live in his house.

Yes, today Lord, I thank You for Your Word, which guides, and positions me at the door of all the good things You have prepared on the path. Blessings be upon all my friends and neighbors as they go on their paths today.

Whom is This? Day 3 – Daniel the burden-barer

The Lord opened my eyes to see the beauty of His Son Jesus while reading Daniel Chapter 10. – Day 3 – Verse 3 – Third letter of Hebrew Alphabet – Gimel

“I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks.” Daniel 10:3

Gimel – 3rd Hebrew letter

Custom – mourners do not speak and stay inside.

Anointing oil is for joy – Daniel stayed “within” in prayer; he was burden for his people.

Jesus was hungryBurden- barer “And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.”Matthew 4:2 (ESV)

“Though he (Daniel) was now a very old man, and might plead…” quote from Matthew Henry

Jesus “denied Himself, and did not plead…He chose to “lift up” prayer and devotion.

In Jewish lore, the letter Gimel, reflects a person who is running (can you see the two legs?) after someone to show them kindness.

If you have ever been to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, most likely you would have seen a camel waiting at the top of the descent, offering tourists the opportunity to take a ride.

Hard working - burden-bare Camel
Hard working – burden-bare Camel

The camel pictured here, was the same camel waiting for our group to come in 2011 and 2014. One look at his callous knees, and the amount of times he has to get up and down, I think you would agree, it is an act of kindness on his part.

I have often thought of this hardworking burden-barer, wondering if he will find a special place of honor, and rest beside the throne in our Kingdom heaven. I would like to believe his reward will be great for faithfully serving pilgrims over the many years.

2016-01-28 Camel Working

May your day be filled with joy in the knowledge of the One Who left His throne to run after us with His acts of kindness and love. Jesus, Who bore our burden all the way to Calvary.

Whom is This? The heart of Daniel – Day 2

The Lord opened my eyes to see the beauty of His Son Jesus while reading Daniel Chapter 10.  – Day 2 – Verse 2 – Second letter of the Alphabet – Bet

Daniel 10: Verse 2.

Daniel was “heartbroken”.

“Note, Good men cannot but mourn to see how slowly the work of God goes on in the world and what opposition it meets with, how weak its friends are and how active its enemies.” quote from Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible.

Bet or Beit

The letter Bet is the first letter of written in the Bible (Torah). Genesis 1:1.

The Jewish sages or teachers, see the letter as a house with a roof, floor and a back, which blocks the view of all that comes before the letter. (As it is the first letter in Scripture, nothing else should come before Scripture).

The understanding is that the front of the letter, the door of the “house” are where the words of all the Scripture is “housed”, and inside the words are all the secrets of God’s wisdom.

Whom is This? The beauty of Jesus in Daniel 10

The Lord opened my eyes to see the beauty of His Son Jesus while reading Daniel Chapter 10.

I has occurred to me, I have never explained each of the Hebrew letters and their word pictures. With that said, here goes, Jesus revealed in Daniel 10.

“In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision. Daniel 10: Verse 1.

Daniel is beginning to tell his story of the revelation of the power of God and Jesus.
